Artist’s Statement
For most of my life, I oscillated between the structured, logical, and process-driven world of mathematics and the amorphous, creative, and improvisational world of art. Although my background made me an observer curious about different perspectives, in many social contexts, I grew up an outsider without a clear identity and never completely belonged to a group. This has lent to themes of isolation and an air of quiet solitude in my images of desolate landscapes.
Though I initially thought art and science were diametrically opposed, I now find a synthesis of the two in the work I create. I approach photography working from improvisation and spontaneity while relying on my intuition for ratios, geometry, and light.
